It's not another Starbucks!(and it's not a Taco Del Mar either)

They finally got a sign up at the new restaurant location on Commercial and Alice SE. Good news, it doesn't appear to be a major chain. It's called French Press Coffee and Crepes and a basic google search leads me to believe that it's original to Salem. My buddies over at the Shell station across the street heard rumors of either the coffee giant Starbucks moving in or Taco Del Mar. This seems to be a trend of original restaurants moving into Salem and French Press has picked a great location. Personally, I'm a pancake sort of person but I'm willing to try some fancy French food.

Also, I noticed the Bad Ass location is now occupied by a coffee house called Grinders The Grind Coffee Co.. Anyone have any intel on that one.

I had heard for the longest time that this was going to be a starbucks which would have been 4 within about 1/2 a mile of each other. Glad it is something different!

If it's anything like the crepes we had in San Fran, good golly I can't wait!! That was the best chocolate crepe I've ever had. It was a regular crepe filled with milk chocolate and topped with strawberries and whipped cream. pure heaven!! So if french press is reading this, make sure to have a chocolate crepe on the menu ;)

Thanks for the update.

There's also a crepes and gelato place being opened in downtown - in the former Venti locale.

I hope both places are at least decent creperies.

What happened to the gelato place on state st? It had good gelato! It was a shame to see it go.

They're local? Wonderful!
I thought they were a chain because they look so ...polished.

Love the logo. Can't wait to try them out.

They have a website up now and are accepting applications.

THE MORE IMPORTANT INFORMATION IS THAT THEY ARE HOPING TO OPEN BY THE END OF THE MONTH!

Thanks, Anonymous (2/19). I drove by it again this morning and it finally occurred to me to look for a website. The writing on the bottom of their banner is too small for me to read while sitting at the light across the intersection.

Well, I went to the place on Friday morning and these are my thoughts. First, they put the grinder for the coffee too close to the register and it makes it impossible for the person taking your order to hear you and it also is so loud that the thing hurt my ears. The interior is very nice, brown tiles with gold inlay pieces and a maple wood. Works well together, but it is all hard so the noise just bounces around. There is not enough seating and what there is is too close together.

The crepes were too doughy and not light enough for my taste. I ordered the hazelnut chocolate which is a simple crepe with nutella and it came with hersheys syrup drizzled on top which ruined the taste of the hazelnut. The coffee was good.
