Nominate the "Eat Salem Restaurant of the Year 2008"

It's been a tough year for restaurants in Salem, with the gas prices skyrocketing and customers penny pinching. Through it all, we were able to get some good meals and discover new places to eat in Salem. Now it's time to nominate your favorite eateries for "Eat Salem Restaurant of the Year 2008." It's easy to do. Just leave the names of all your favorite restaurants in the comment section of this post. On December 19th, we will take the most nominated restaurants from this post and allow the readers to vote for their favorite one. The restaurant with the most votes by January 1st, will be named the winner. Some time in January, we'll meet up at the winning restaurant for a meal. I'll start with my nominations.

  10. Little Cannoli!!-- Best Dessert, hidden gem
DaVinci's-- happy hour appetizers, ambiance for date
    Rice Time-- sushi, lunches
    Thai Cuisine--Thai in Keizer
    Padington's-- whole pizza
    SFNY-- pizza slice
    Los Dos Hermanos-- Mexican/Central American
Morton's-- northwest and local cuisine, special occasion dining
Thompsons/McMenamins-- delicious burgers and fries, especially in summer outside, tasty pub food and drinks though service is spotty
Original Pancake House-- breakfast (sadly, Busick Court went downhill several years ago)

Overrated: Bentleys (nice decor but food overpriced for quality)
Underrated: McGraths (not much ambiance but very good, reasonably priced food from local chain)

  27. it may just be squeaking in the 2008 category, but the new restaurant on 17th near state (used to be cravings, and dragonfly and green house cafe before that) is hands down the best breakfast in this entire region. It opened on the 15th, and honestly, as a major foodie, their corned beef hash and eggs breakfast is the absolute best breakfast I have had anywhere, ever.
Check it out and give some support to these guys, you will be amazed.
